>>493105You know the bowie is a fighting knife, that actually what its first purpose was when created?
The first line if you look it up, is "is a pattern of fixed-blade fighting knife first popularized by Jim Bowie in the early 19th century."
As the Kukri, it is also used to process heavy wood, I've lived in the Philippines for almost 20 yrs, pretty much all our heat came from fireplace, pretty much all the wood was processed with a kukri, house building, farming, even breaking joints and crap on animals when harvesting them. This is one reason why the kukri is thick as hell, so it can handle hard wood, for both for fire making, as well as house building. Even living in the U.S. for the last eight yrs, I have used mine a lot of Oak, Pine, other heavily knotted hard woods, it works just fine. It is also very good fighting knife, the Gurkha are known for using, when it comes to knife fighting, specially with the kukri, they are some of the best. It is a slashing / chopping weapon, so you do not need a hilt, it is not meant to stab with.
>>493044OP, depending on where you live, a mid size knife and hatchet is probably best for you, throw in a bahco folding saw, you can easily do all your wood working needs. nIf you're more into just wanting one tool for the job, that is not gonna happen, better if you got a mid range size knife. BK 7, Esee 4, Condor Bushlore. Not to big, not to small.
As for a form of protection, better off getting a gun. Hope you find what you need, im about to go on a week long camping trip, so I wish the best for you.
