So /out/, how do i avoid stumbling on drug plants when hiking/camping in Canada?

I've been reading alot into this shit and it seems like alot of people get killed and fed to animals because they stumbled on a drug plant while hiking.

Where i live i cannot get a gun unless i do alot of paperwork and do test and other stuff which could take months/years to get a legal permit.

What should i do? Would some bear detterent help me in this situation?

Define "bear deterrent". Yeah that'd usually work pretty well.

But honestly, that's like finding a needle in a needle stack. Its hard to find drug farms, even when you're looking for them, even harder if you're not. If you stick to trafficked areas, like within a mile or so from trails, you shouldn't run into anything. When you get out in the boonies, middle of nowhere, that's where they'd be.

You can easily make out from pvc. They are deadly and accurate. Not sure what your laws are regarding slingshots/bows but check it out. Otherwise bear spray would be great. Also just stick to trails. No one is dumb enough to plant within sight of a trail. And no one is just snatching people off trails to protect their turf.

I don't know why people keep thinking bear spray is more effective than regular pepper spray. Maybe in the volume, but it contains considerably lower active ingredient than shit designed for humans.

If you're extremely worried about your safety, you could invest in an antique firearm. Anything made before 1899 doesn't require a firearms license. Be warned, you will pay high prices for antique rifles, even higher prices for pistols, and the cops would not look kindly on you for carrying a weapon without intent to hunt. You could carry a knife, we don't have restrictions on length, as long as it's not concealed. Bear spray WILL land you in prison if you carry it for defense.

My advice? Just go hiking. I have never heard of anyone in my area stumbling upon an active drug plant. I've heard of people finding weed growing in the fields, but it might be hearsay. Carry a combat knife if you're really worried.

Pepper spray is seen as an only offensive weapon. Self-defense laws are pretty fucky, so if a weapon doesn't relate to hunting or the woods, you can almost guarantee it's banned.

In the mean time, you could carry a sawn off reproduction flintlock rifle. Keep it >26" with at least an 18" barrel or the RCMP might consider it to be a pistol. Bear spray probably won't do you much good, since if it gets violent you'll need to kill the guy if you want to live.

It's pretty lawless in the back woods. It cuts both ways though: if you carried an smuggled pistol out there, nobody would know. I'm not suggesting you should do this, but I can tell you that if you did, you wouldn't be the only one.

Not really. Each province has different laws, and even if they're not illegal in that province, you could be slapped with a poaching charge for having it out of season, or without a hunting license.
