Dear /out/,

I need your advice. I've recently landed a job where I'll be hiking innawoods around the region with a 30lb tank of bug poison on my back.

My question is: What gear should do you recommend for this, considering it will be in woods and swamps where I'll be getting raped by bugs and will walk a fuckload. My current boots are ass and I'm poor as fuck (student).

Please help.

Pic sorta related but I'll be doing it on foot.

That was my logic. I bought some leather army boots, look like neo-nazi shitkickers, but they're foot tombs. No breathing, you just get trenchfoot even tho the weather is real dry. Horrid.

(the lines on the wing tips are wing tip vortices, again, visible due to condensation but also extreme pressure gradients causing differing light diffraction)

Also, why would you be killing bugs innawoods... isn't that what the woods are all about?

They're woods near cities. Apparently the city folk don't dig skeeters and black flies biting the hell out of them while theyre barbecuing some cows. Personally I don't mind the bugs but money's money, even if it has bug blood on it

I've had good luck with them, and they've got a good warranty, but they're not the end-all be-all.

This sounds like some off-trail type stuff. You might be in mud, on rocks, stepping between logs and such. There are lots of work boots out there, some are designed to provide good support on concrete warehouse floors, while others are better for outdoor stuff. "Logger" boots have a higher heel, which provides some traction and support. You may not need something as heavy as a full on logger boot, but something like that may be what you want.

Something with good support can protect your ankle from rolling with that load on your back. The heels put your knees, hips, and back at a better angle so you don't fatigue as easily.

I'm in swamps and bayous erryday...well, at least urvry weekend. I just use off deepwoods, it has 25% deet. It works great Against mosquitoes and deer ticks. And I use Chippewa snake boots. I'm about to waltz into the bayous right now actually.

Maybe you should think about two pairs of boots. A good sturdy leather boot for dry areas and a pair of rubbers for them bog days. Buy quality boots and look after em and they will last a lot longer than wall mart specials
