Who got you into going /out/ ? Was it your father? Did you join the scouts and fell in love with it? Were you tired of urban setting, decided to go hiking and crap one day??>Never got to go camping with my dad. >He passes away when I was 9. >Leaves behind my mom, myself, three other siblings. >She now has to work like crazy, in order to support us. >When she has a day off, she tries her best to spend it with us. >Start to get a lil older, I start taking an interest in camping. >Mom has no interest in camping, does it any way to spend time with me. >She starts to get more into it, would find a babysitter for my bros and sis, just so she can take me more often. >We start doing things like fishing, longer stays when camping, etc etc. >Fast forward 17 yrs (Now 28) >She has a new job, is way to busy to do any of that with me now. >She decides to put off two weeks this coming summer to spend it camping with me. >The last month we been planning more and more. >Getting so stoked for it. >She passed away yesterday morning. >I'll never get to go on another trip with her again. >Didn't even get to say good bye. I'm not really an outdoorsman so much as a guy who sleeps in a tent between bike rides but it suits me

>>494652 Shit, right in the feels, m8. To be honest, im pretty new to all this. Ive only been backpacking once so far, but gomma get some good trips im this summer. My dad has always been an outdoors kinda guy. It wasnt til recently that this board spsrked an interest in me. Im confused as to why people wouldnt like this stuff. Why would you not want to explore the world you were given?

I grew up and still live in the Lake District. Its just one of those things you do if you live here. Many don't of course but we don't talk to those lay-about degenerates who do nothing but complain about living in Englands most beautiful region.

Crown land, a good dog, an old shot gun and a season's long walk with your Dad.

My father and uncle used to hike Yosemite every year. My uncle had a son the same time as when my father had me, and passed down the tradition to us. I've kind of expanded us into other places in California like Mt. Whitney and later more obscure places deep in King's Canyon and Sequoia.

>>494652 My dad is a minister and when I was 9 he took a large pay raise for an unusual set up in a back country area. Closest kids my age were a mile or more away and I had to bike to them. So my parents bought me a mountain bike and off I went. Whoever says huffy mountain bikes aren't durable I promise never met me. We went everywhere we could and spent a lot of time in the woods. Eventually I got in to playing paintball in the woods and enjoyed every minute or being out in that. But it was never the paintball that I really enjoyed, it was being out in the brush that excited me. I never had an interest in boy scouts though. My dad started taking me hunting but I was high energy kid with no real patience for sitting still for a long time. Still not overly fond of it. I do love to fish though, still. Don't go out like I did when I was a kid but I am almost finished with my gear set up and will change that very soon.

Dad had me in Boyscouts at the earliest age. I was in cubscouts, then Boyscouts, worked at a camp in the summertime, camped through the winter with my troop. I never wanted to do any other sports or activities, always just outside activities. Yeah, sure I was into video games as well, but I always had a thing for the outdoors.
