>>504115I've heard that serrations make cutting rope easier. I've only ever had a shitty Helikon knife or steak knives to compare and I personally found that the serrations just got caught on the rope and required a much harder pull to cut. Even if serrations are better, most (but not all) don't find themselves cutting rope enough to warrant that extra second or two of time saved (of course, on the basis serrations cut rope very well, if you're climbing or something then a second or two could be life or death).and the serrations just get in the way of all other knife chores like wood-work and processing game (which are the only reasons I ever see myself needing a knife, although wood work is a pretty big reason).
It really depends on your needs though. I camp and hike and that's pretty much my /out/ activities summed up. I don't climb, dive, cave or anything like that, so my equipment needs will differ even as much as the kind of knife I'm looking for. But regardless, I'd always recommend trying a few things for yourself including different kinds of knives (folders vs fixed, serrated vs non-serrated, and all kinds of other crap).
I hope you enjoy your knife and your new hobby. Welcome to the outdoors.
