>>496371Honestly, I've never NEEDED a hatchet while camping.
Furthermore, I'm the only person in my circle of leisure camping friends with one and I usually refuse to bring it for a few reasons
>Weight vs benefit Even in areas that are sparse for ground wood, it doesn't pay off. People think you'll just work through a foot wide log and reduce it to fire wood with ease and wind up chopping for 2 hours to get a tiny bit of wood.
>The doors they open "Oh look, I've got a hatchet so I should destroy all these trees now!" It literally turns the old adage "Everything looks like a nail to a man with a hammer" a truism, and makes people do stupid shit they wouldn't have done otherwise.
and some other various reasons that I don't feel like expressing right now. Plus it winds up being a dick waving contest (Look how much wood I chopped! Pussies!) aside from being generally destructive they also are a huge noise issue.....
Anyways, I suppose I'd like to ask you folks WHY you want to lug out a few extra pounds if the only outcome is a bigger and more consuming fire which is furthermore destructive to your localities?
If I wanted to go build a shelter I guess it'd be reasonable, but I do construction for a living and get my building fix at work.....
Anyways, sorry for the off topic response.
