OK, so let me give you some background.

One of our cat needs pills and we need to give them to her. They will be in cat cages when we are driving and they seem to like the van so that's fine.

Coyotes think cats are delicious. They're pretty shy, and I've never seen one wander through an established camp. That could just be because I was asleep at the time, however, and they'll be more willing to take risks if they're hungry and see a nice fat cat. I've never tried baiting them into my camp with cats before.

I wouldn't expect them to be an issue, but it still might be worth considering.

when my daughter was a baby, We took her camping. I had a backpack carrier, and she rode around in it all day. It had a canopy over it to keep the sun off her face, and we had to stop to feed, change, play with the baby.

In hindsight, I would recommend against it. We only did it once.

Cats aren't fun to camp with. Dogs are. They hang around and want to play, get muddy, etc.

Cats run off into the wilderness. You don't see them again until they are cold/hungry. They have LOADS of fun in this new, wide open space to explore. You just aren't included in that fun and it's harrowing, wondering whether they'll find their way back, be eaten by something larger, etc.
