I was there on a school trip many many years ago. Bus and train from the Norwegian border to Murmansk (Mypmac). I don't remember that much but:

>slept out in the woods in some weird ass cottages. Just enormous wooden barrels laid down on the side and made into cabins

What I supose was once woods outside the town looks like something out of a bad post-apocalyptic movie. And all the people in Nikkel wore gray, black and brown wool clothing. Shit was dark as fuck.
