Try staying just slightly dehydrated for a week and then suddenly trying to digest meat. Not knowing how your body works and testing your limits generally means all your training will be for shit. And on top of that, these types of survival shows discussed in this thread are aimed at children or young adults who will end up overestimating their abilities in any situation and fuck it up worse.
If you're interested in bushcraft, practice it. If you're interested in primitivism and aboriginal living practice that. If you just like to camp and hike or bro around in the woods by all means do what you want.
Don't pretend that being a survivalist is a thing. There are cross skills that apply to being in nature, but gross motor skills greatly degrade under pressure and adverse conditions, fine motor skills are impossible. Cody would keep you alive if you just did what he does, stay calm focus on important things. At worst Joe would get you seriously injured or killed by doing stupid shit, at best he will just make you tired.

Just my personal opinion. Early on in your fantastical survival scenario you need to decide if you will stay put or walk out, then obviously all of your decisions are made around that one initial choice. You can survive in a desert scenario without relying on rattlesnakes as your food. Anyone arguing the opposite... seriously questionable.
