Backcountry stove thread

No.500921 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
We haven't had one of these in just about forever, and I'm about to drop actual money on a new stove, so Stove Thread! All stoves are welcome, but my own needs center around a multifuel stove that I can take ski touring/mountaineering/hiking/kayaking.

So far there are two contenders:
>Primus Omnifuel (pic related)
and
>MSR Whisperlite Universal

I've had hands-on experience with both, and either one would work, but I'm leaning towards the Primus. Also wondering about the MSR XGK because it's so efficient at melting snow for drinking water (which I do a lot.) The only downside is I'd give up multi-fuel capacity and I'd have to go back to controlling the simmer via bottle pressure and micro-adjustments on the fuel valve. Thoughts?
