You don't need a "hard to find" fan belt if you know how to tension a rope and you don't need "hard to find" body parts and brackets if you know how to use an electric welder. Even shit like alternators don't need to be OEM parts, if you can fit it in line with the belt drive it will work.
Owners of older Land Rovers are far too sentimental about having stock parts, they will spend $500+ buying a new carburetor and having the intake balanced because it was hard to start on a cold morning; a proper redneck will solve the problem permanently for $10 by installing a manual choke.
I will however freely admit that pre 1986 Ford owners with a F series 'cheat' on engine maintenance by having a almost indestructible engine, most 35+ year old F series still on the road have a straight 6 engine which simply will not die.
