Related, I am doing the pct, started on the 19th, going to hit the 200 mile mark today.
Experiences: Border patrol for the first 100 is unreal, you can practically resupply from the hiker box if you like oatmeal, fuck the desert at low elevations, so far the trail has felt like fallout real life edition in so many ways. I like it, maybe I will bump with some photos later if I still have service.

She let me thru-hike the AT whilst she was back in England working hard to pay the bills, then paid for me to live for a month whilst I found work. I think she's better than most unfortunately.

Thru hiking is best for people who are young with no commitments, or retired with no commitments. Guess I'll have to wait for the second one.

I'm a Verizon cell tech in northern New Hampshire. We have roughly 50 sites on top of mountains, a few of them are near the AT. I feel bad sometimes about damaging the wilderness when we put these sites in, however it is becoming a increasingly necessary service. Plus a bro gots to get paid

For me it was ok at the beginning falls off in VA gets intermittent around PA, great around NY then as soon as you get to New England you were lucky if you get signal at the trailhead/summits. I was luckily on verizon as it had the best service last year.

Ideally it wouldn't be a problem, but being away from your home for that long can be hard with no contact.

Yes people act that way. I work at an outfitter and thru-hikers come in all the time asking for discounts, ravaging our bathroom when we are kind enough to offer them free showers, using our space to store their packs and then don't come back to get them before we close so we have to contact them somehow and wait around for them to show up... they also have a tendency to think our store is their personal club house to hang around in after we close. They just sit around on their phones until our manager has to tell them to leave. They come in straight off the trail smelling to high heaven and try on new socks and every pair of shoes we have and then decide they don't want any of them... I love my job and I think that hiking the AT is a grand undertaking but 85 percent of the hikers I see come off the trail just give me the impression that it's solely for bums and socially inept autists. It's fucking sad.
