Hey /out/
I am looking for a good ultralight stove for hiking/camping this year. I have looked at the Vertex Outdoors VLS Ultralight (pictured), but I would like to know about a few other stoves similar to the Vertex.
A concern of mine with these is if theyre performance is largely affected by wind, such as a homemade alcohol stove.
Has anyone had any personal experience with this, or similar fuel tablet stoves?

How many days hike do you have in mind? Also, if wind is a big factor for you, you're doing something wrong. If you build a proper wind shield this shouldn't even be a problem.

And you're right about the wind screen, duh.
I have been using a jetboil and an optimus stove for the last few years, I rarely use a windscreen (never for the jetboil). I guessed I'm just a bit spoiled.

Not OP but what's with the arrogant tone? There are many reasons as to why he could not or would prefer not to build a wind break. Some places don't have rocks, or it's winter and they're frozen to the ground, or he's just tired from his trip and wants one fewer thing to worry about. Get the stick out of your butt. Desiring a more windproof stove is completely reasonable.

OP just looking at that stove I wouldn't want use it in the wind. Too flickery and exposed.

Gives you really effective options for Alcohol-, Esbit-, and woodfire..

I have the regular aluminium version of it and I'm real happy with it. I kinda with I'd got the ti one now, it'd have been worth the money.

Not necessarily. The White Box Stove is about $23 http://whiteboxalcoholstoves.com/index.html

Ive used it maybe a dozen time so far, and its pretty awesome.

They take recycled aluminum cans to make them. Take the print off and voila 23$ charge. Seems like something we could do for free and save the money for something else ( more food/longer trip imo)

I am one for for more self reliance, rather than buy more stuff. Thats not to say that this company is not producing some good gear though
