>>51106It was very cold from mid September through April. The cold wasn't the worst part however, it was the swarms of black flies that seemingly came out of nowhere once the land thawed. I'm talking swarms of biblical proportions. I had to sit in the campfire smoke, half choking to death, to avoid it. Once they all died off it was mosquito season, which sucked but was manageable.
>>51107I had a ME hunting/fishing/trapping license. As long as the animals are taken legally, in their designated seasons, and are checked at the game stations, you're free to do what you want with them. I made friends with a guy who lived on the southern end of the lake. He'd come by once a month and take them off my hands. I guess he was a licensed fur dealer of something. I never really questioned him. He'd just show up in his bass-boat, throw the furs in, cover them with a tarp, pay me and leave.
I learned a lot but I also missed out on a lot. I missed my family, my friends, and eating food that didn't take 3 hours to catch, 2 to prepare, and 1 to cook.
