You don't need sawn logs to split if you have a hatchet or hand axe.

I tried this technique a few days ago. It works but I really had to hit the logs hard, it didn't split as quickly as in this video AND it makes heaps of noise.

A handy trick to know but I wont use it again unless I absolutely have to.

I like your canteen. I have the original army one and it's nice. I wanted that version of the sigg but it was limited. Anyway, no reason not to carry both in my experience. The folding saw is so compact anyway and I find it immensely useful.
