Not an expert yet but I'm happy with my progress so far.
I can turn out something useable in about an hour at this point. Tree branch to eating with it.
I want to try my hand at some bigger stuff like trenchers and kuksas this year but I think I'll need to get a curved adze before I try it.
My tips for a beginner:
Start with something large. Try something about tablespoon sized and then get smaller as you improve. That was my first mistake.
Keep your blades sharp. And I mean RAZOR sharp. look up some tutorials for sharpening a crook knife.
Don't try to take too much out in one go. Lots of small shavings will get you better results.
Carve out the bowl once you've finished roughing out. Don't save it till near the end of the process. Doing it earlier will allow you to adjust for any fuckups you make.
