>>514685who doesn't exaggerate their resume though? I mean if we were to take all these guys at face value one could only assume that the natural course for an ex special forces guy is becoming a survival show host. I think the correlation between special forces and outdoors survival skills isn't especially strong. special forces implies to me specialized skills in warfare. I'm sure independence from normal supply chains is involved for special forces, but generally I don't think they are expected to be able to live off the land or anything. If you're an outdoorsman you're going to generally be picking up those skills on your own time.
So anyway, to get a job he was qualified for he exaggerated a job title he did not actually have. I think the military experience part was just playing into perceptions of what maybe the public expected of special forces guys based off of movies like first blood. Dave certainly held his own with his background coming in.
Last thought, I'd love to see a dual survival episode where they put dave and joe together and then matt and cody together. I feel like that would be fascinating to watch. Joe/Matt and Dave/Cody just seem like natural pairings. Unfortunately everyone on that show seems to burn bridges like it was going out of style so I doubt we'll ever see that.
