Make sure to check yourself not just for ticks themselves, but for the RASH a few days-weeks after possible exposure.

These ticks are tiny and easy to miss. The rash is more obvious, but can be varied in its appearance and written off as a bruise or sunburn or something else.

I got a bullsye(ish) rash last summer on my arm when I was clearing ivy off my mom's place, didn't think anything of it, didn't see any bite mark or tic, lasted about a week, I don't think I have any symptoms, and the doctor didn't think anything of it back when he saw the rash. I do live in tic country here in upstate NY tho, and this thread got me paranoid. How do I know if I'm fine without going to get blood work done?

My friend's dad is a broken alcoholic and he was homeless living in the woods in a tent most of last year. Anyway, he had a job cleaning the floors at Walmart, but kept "being sick" and did a bunch of no-shows until they fired him. This went on for like 8 months, him just drunk all the time in the woods, unable to move, puking, etc. Eventually he got hospitalized and figured-out he had the Lyme the whole tyme. They did what they could but between his life of drinking and advanced Lyme disease the guy is a goddamn braindead leper.

OP I'm glad you found it. Many people don't get or don't see the bullseye

Was it itchy or painful? If so, not Lyme. If not, you very likely had it, and probably cleared the infection without any permanent effects. You should still have bloodwork done to confirm that you had it.

My country doesn't believe in Lyme disease. The specific Borellia bacteria that causes Lymes disease doen't occur in Australia and has never been detected so the government denies that people can catch it and hence won't subsidise medicine for it. Meanwhile people still contract the symptons of lyme-like disease after tickbites and have even died from it.

The problem lies in that its a slightly different but related Borellia bacteria to the one that causes Lyme's that is causing the damage and the tests for it are hardly ever conclusive yet the symptons are almost identical. Furthermore some Australian doctors will ignore results gathered from specialist labratories overseas just because they don't believe its here and that the person is suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome instead

Its pretty scary tbh

What are the symptoms?

I've been sick for a year. Just with fatigue and mental issues, mainly. As well as weight loss, and being underweight. Worked my way out of bed this year after having spent the second half of last year in bed all day everyday. Ccan walk for 25mins most days. If it's a good month.

Doctors haven't really found anything. Besides a stomach ulcer but that doesn't seem to be the cause of everything. I thought I had Lyme or something last year. But the symptoms are so varied. And I am in Australia so doctors don't give a fuck, as you said.

If you could trace the time period it first sstarted to around the tme of a tick bite then it could stll be possible that you have the lyme like disease

I assume they did some basic bloodwork...CBC, CMP, TSH, etc, and it was all normal? How much weight have you lost? Any joint pain? Nothing about this really sounds particularly like Lyme.

2 weeks ago I went on a weekend backpacking trip with my hikingbro. Got back home, and did a thorough, all-over check for ticks in the shower...and found one right in my fucking taint. I spent like 15 minutes bent over, blood rushing to my head, and staring at my asshole in the mirror, trying to get a good enough view to get the damn thing out without leaving the head in. Finally got it out, and I almost leaped for joy.
