>>523257my main bitch is the stagnation of it all. back in the 'days of yore' people were having to use canvas, leather, bone brass, and iron because technologically, it's what they had- stronger, lighter and waterproof materials are now common place and all around us.
The whole BC thing is supposedly about skills, the 'carry more, by knowing less' ethic and using a basic toolset, but when that toolset still fucking weighs more and is just as fiddly than my progressive gear ( many evil and yet wistful glares were had as my gang jetboiled up in 90 seconds ) then something has gone wrong. It's all well and good having the skills to 'innawoods' but in the UK that is a fucking romantic dream.
NEWS FLASH- you don't need a full tang 5mm thick knife to baton like your life depends on it, you don't need a leather bush hat to shield you from the punishing rays of the sun, you don't need a 9kg Dutch oven for an overnight camp!
By no means am I an ultralight fag, but I do believe in progressive technology. I like being /out/ and whatever I can learn, or use to make that time easier/more enjoyable I'll use- not stick playing at going out, and getting dressed up- I'll leave that to the cosplayers
