I have an unconventional opinion on this but red wings have always been my go-to boot. My grandpa gave me an old worn in pair of his field boots, i dont know what model the were really.
after however many years he had them they were my out boots for ~8 years. I realized that they didnt quite fit and had more sentimental value than practical value so i retired them, despite the fact they were still in fine shape.
Local store was having a sale and i went buy a pair of 875s and i basically wear them every day.
they were clunky and stiff for longer than i thought, almost a year, but after a 14 day trip to arkansas where it rained almost every day the moisture and terrain stretched the leather enough, and the angled soles softened into a walking curve. Rubbed some good boot oil on them and theyre now theyre the most comfortable, supportive shoes i own.
I have a bit of a fetish for leather gear, but the only two shoes wear are my boots, and a pair of all leather sperries. Walkin to piss at night? sperries. Slippery rocks, don't wanna get the boots wet? sperries. If you ever need more shoe, boots, if you ever need less shoe, put your shoes in your pack and let the mud leech the toxicants from your soles.
I have no idea what I'm talking about anymore
