Any here have experience with taking your children camping/hiking? Did they enjoy it?

I have four daughters. Two of them are really into it - two not so much. Start them young is my advice. Make it manageable and be flexible. I popped smoke and bailed on day 2 of what was supposed to be a 3 day trip. Too much estrogen and adolescent squabbling.
The best part of taking your kids /out/; one my kids recently finished her first year at University - she expressed a desire to get /out/ and we put together a nice little 3 day hiking trip on the spur of the moment. It's very gratifying to see my /off/spring want to hit the trails.

I got him his own ferro rod (UST Sparkforce) and he lights all our fires now. He started out using dryer lint to catch the spark but now uses cattail fluff & birch bark.
