Anyone here been to Zion UT? Going on a 2 week trip there in July, plan on doing the full Subway and Narrows, what else is worth checking out? Pic is my rig in Moab last year.

I got it to travel to races, I do triathlons (half and full Ironman), ultra running, and long distance MTB. Good for weekend trips because I can get somewhere, pop up in ~30 seconds, turn the heater on and I'm all set, then can pack up in another few mins in the morning and go to a different town/state. I don't normally hike unless I'm with out of shape people. Here's the inside, fairly simple, stove, heater, food, and clothes.

i had a 2003 ranger then i totaled it... i was saving up for a hardshelled popup camper attachment...

Get LARGE JUGS OF WATER!!! Other than that, make sure to have plenty of fuel, water, and shade/fan. It is usually a dry heat there, so as long as you have water, you'll not suffer from heat death. But dehydrate and you'll go under FAST.

How does /out/ feel about bed tents? Made my annual trip to Bass Pro Shop last month and saw one, thought it was pretty fucking cool, but very situational. Don't know if I'd ever spring for one, as much as I would want to.

Angels Landing, Snow Canyon state park is close and really amazing, the little hikes are fun, Bryce canyon is great.

What are your skills/interests? Specifics would be helpful to know (general exploring and hiking, photography, backcountry hiking, canyoneering, climbing, etc). I haven't personally spent a lot of time in Zion but I have a good circle of friends that I could ask. Most of them are climbers or canyoneers but I'm sure they could suggest things that everyone could enjoy.

If I'm going with people who have trucks to do some truck camping, they'll take PVC and bend it over the back and lay a tattoo over it. Looks like a covered wagon kinda and it's really cheap. We're all poor.

Zion is the mecca of hard core canyoneering.
Do you do rope worK?
I'm guessing that you do if you are going to do the subway. You should also know that the number of permits issued for the subway is limited so you may want to check into that before hand. Also, if you are going for two weeks, you may want to venture to the northern part of the park (Kolob Canyons section)---it is quite a bit different than the lower end of the park. Kolob Arch is one of the longer arches in the world. Also, the southern end is pure white NAVAJO sandstone while the Kolob Canyons section is red rock.

I'm mainly out there for mountain biking but obviously can't do that in Zion, already have stuff set up to do in Virgin/St George area, Zion is more for my girlfriend and I to explore together (she doesn't ride), she can hike and climb fine, so just want to check out the areas unique to the area. Not planning on doing anything that requires real climbing gear.
