what you can do:
>cut trees
>cut rope
>open cans
>use as a hammer

you should invest in a really good batoning knife. that should get you through anything you might need an axe for.

There are some pretty damn nice options for axes/hatchets but I chose a little less expensive route. I picked up a Husquevarna hatchet. It's pretty beefy and takes and holds an edge well. A little on the heavy side.
