Most of the video mine captures ends up in the trash. Hours and hours of video to get maybe 2-3 seconds that are worth keeping. Sometimes it's just a frame I keep.

I like it for racing - I can go back and see my starts, pause the video and look at my line choices, should have done xxxxx different, more aggressive on my cornering, etc. I might go through the video once or twice, but don't usually archive it for further viewing. I'll save a few frames and throw 'em in my pictures, but generally don't keep all the videos.

Don't really have the patience to do productions either. Cool shit, sure, trim and upload to youtube... other than that, intothetrashitgoes.mov.

Went riding yesterday... about 100 miles of this.

Yeah I have a replayxd 720 that recently broke and found the exact same thing...
Like hundreds of hours of riding footage that I did nothing with. Like I was ever going to learn how to edit video to an acceptable standard, and like my friends are actually interested in watching that shit. Reminds me of wedding photos... who cares?

Recharging and uploading actually ended up being more of a pain in the ass than it was worth. kind of glad when the replayxd died on me (I think the new ones are supposed to be much better)

Now pic related, a sena 10c, I could enjoy I think. It's bluetooth headset (necessity) with camera built in.
I'd probably only ever put a 10 second clip together for instagram though, if something particularly interesting happened on a ride

Ate shit on a step-down in a snocross race last year. That step-down kept the medics busy the whole day.

Relevant to my interests as I also got one recently.

Right now the only things I can think of doing is putting it downrange and looking at groupings or just general destruction, and putting it on the end of my speargun when I go spearfishing, if I ever start that up again.

Also: what editing software can you use, and which one do you use?

Macfag here.
GraphicConverter to do timelapses
Quicktime Pro for rough editing (splitting videos so I don't have to import a fuckhuge file)
iMovie for video editing, effects/audio.

Well shit. I appreciate the input, my dad owns a Mac and he always brags about how photo and video editing are so much better on Mac than Windows. It's good to know what real life video editors use for their shit.

I've got a windows box, along with my work PC ... the photo work I do is miserable on them. Mac has imageio libraries baked into the OS, which means it can handle a raw file just as easily as a jpeg. Outside of Nikon's tools (or Photoshop, which I'd rather not install on either win box) I haven't found a free or inexpensive editor that'll even open a raw/nef file.

Windows movie maker works, but that's about all I can say about it.
Irfanview's a decent tool for resizing/cropping images.

Couple buddies like gopro's editing software, might give that a try.

It won't pick up audio with the dive case on it.

If you want audio you need to put it in a skeleton case or the frame mount.

If you don't use Photoshop, image editing sucks on any platform, it is far and away the best software for the job, plus it's the only viable professional option (though I really wish that wasn't the case), and it's the same on Windows or Mac.

Cheap video options for PC do kind of suck, especially since Windows Movie Maker got dumbed town to the point of uselessness (the version that came with XP SP2 wasn't bad for a free editor, but I don't even use the Windows 7 version, it's shit).

Not that anon but I use mine almost exclusively with the open back door on it for improved sound... I've used it in a whole bunch of rain but only in a 'get it out, get a shot for a bit, put it back' way. I'd bottle out of using it like that in full rain mounted to anything.

But it's fine in little showers and the like.

Whoa whoa whoa. There are different cases for these things? How do I know which ones are waterproof and stuff? The one that came on mine is a clear one where the back opens up and you can't take the camera out. The door has a gasket that goes all the way around and a clip you have to push down, the push forward to seal. I assume it's waterproof to pretty deep. It's the GoPro Hero, the $130 one since I won't use it often and don't need super ultra 28k resolution when I do.

Maybe I should stop being such a useless faggot and go read my owner's manual...
