Pants. I'm looking for pants. In socal, for hiking. Brands that I've come across are Carhartt, Duluth, 511, Wranglers. All the thru hiking/ultralight people like to talk about light weight and quick drying being the most important factors, but for me durability is most important. I have ripped lots of pairs (including one of those lightweight breathable convertible things from REI) from just catching on a rock face and it's getting fucking annoying. I don't really want convertible pants, lyme disease and skin cancer aren't really my "thing". Does anybody have experience with this, particularly in hot/dry climates? Any opinions on where the proper middleground lies? Right now I'm tending towards pic related 511 taclites, is this a horrible mistake?
