Hey /out/
Wanting to start hunting this fall. hunting deer. I really dislike camo. Is it necessary? Could I get away with earth toned flannel? What is your preferred forest camo?

Doesn't even have to be earth toned. Deer are colourblind, hence hunters wearing blaze orange.

I prefer realtree but it really depends on your local flora. It's not necessary but advantageous. I read in a hunting mag that deer can see a little into the UV so avoid blue. Don't know if that's true.

deer are protanopic dichromats. they see greens and oranges as the same color, so this is why a hunter can wear green, camo, or orange/reds in the forest and deer can't see them. be careful though, yellows, purples, and blues will stick out (literally) like a fire in the night

I personally prefer muted earth tones just because they're so versatile. Cabela's has a pattern called Outfitter Camo that I love.

Deer you can wear anything that breaks up your form against the background. People used to hunt in flannel shirts with great success.

Turkey you should wear decent camouflage.

A lot of modern camos these days are made to look good on a day in town so they don't look like "old school" camo like natural gear or predator. I guess they work fine, but I like predator.

It's not necessary as others have said. The main thing is to break up your outline. That said, however, you're out there to hunt, not impress people with your fashion sense.

I'm partial to ASAT. I have a leafy 3D mesh jacket that can go over anything. I can wear it over a t-shirt in warm weather or over layers in cold.

Plaids would be better, the pattern breaks up your shape and makes your harder to recognize. Solids will make you stand out from your surroundings more.

Hit up the work wear store and get a nice flannel.

Not a millionaire and just getting into hunting myself. Made my own camo. Don't have to pay for my work uniforms so all it cost me was 3 cans of spray paint. Pic related

Im more into camouflage for reasons other than hunting animals, but depending on where you live, coyote brown is a great color. It blends into the surrounds 3 seasons out of the year ( spring, brown. summer,brown, green. fall, brown.) and you can wear it and not look like a hunter if you care about that.

I was into all sorts of different camouflage with designs and patterns, but have recently been liking single colors. Foliage green is also a great color because its greyish and blends into multiple surroundings (except bring green foliage, despite the name...wtf)
