I'm looking for good hiking spots in Wisconsin.

I've already done Door County. I tried Kettle Moraine southern unit a few weeks ago and thought it was pretty cool.

Devil's lake looks really touristy and boring. I heard that there's some cool spots south of La Crosse on the Mississippi.

Anyone have some good Wisconsin /out/ experiences?

Beautiful. Went to Copper Harbor a few years ago. Only stayed for one night. Should of stayed a few and explored some more.

I didn't do much hiking but I kayaked and camped in the apostle islands last summer and it was lovely, some of the islands have some nice trails but nothing longer than day hike distance as far as I saw. Both banks of the st croix river have some nice parkland, I haven't explored the Wisconsin side as much as the Minnesota but it's a very pretty area.

Ice age trail like previous posters have stated. North Country Trail passes through the state too and it's pretty awesome. Otherwise, the Wi DNR runs a bunch of state trails that can be found at dnr.wi.gov. some are great, some mediocre, all are free for hikers (bikes require a trail pass) and they're like all over the place

This seems like a great place to ask; I want to do a three or four day hike on the Ice Age trail, in a more southern point since I'll be driving to it from Chicago. Any suggestions on where to start and stop?

Do the Southern Unit of Kettle Moraine. There are 3 shelters to stay at but if you go on a weekend you probably won't be able to stay at them. There are a bunch of other trails off of the IAT there if you need to hike a circle to get back to your car.

Unfortunately, that's what you are required to do. I just say you probably won't be able to use them because the weekends are probably mostly booked.

Most trails the shelters are just first come first serve and everyone else just has to set up outside. Shelters aren't hotel rooms or timeshares... idk why you would be required to reserve them.

yea, that's it. I did 10 miles of the trail in a little over 3 hours about two months ago with a heavy (~35lb) pack. If you wanted to make a 4 day trip out of it, you will probably have to start North of the park.
There is a negligible amount of elevation change so you can make really fast time on the trail.
