>>535203Thanx; the price sucks, sure -- but for the last two years I have finally become a proper adult, i.e. steady job paying approx. 70k a year... (which is not "that much" in Norway, though) which again has lead to a slippery slope shopping spree on American ultralight websites. So, all in all, my kit is actually even more expensive (seeing as I also pay shipping and tolls). Fuck it, my kids like macaroni. Alos, family holidays have been reduced to hiking i Norway, seeing as I've spent all the money we could have used to fly to Thailand or wherever..
However, the main costs are easily mitigated if you change the 'mid for a decent nylon/PU tarp, drop the bivy, switch out titanium stuff for aluminum, and make your own twig burner, sleeping pad, drysacks and get some cheaper and sturdier hiking poles (I actually really dislike the Gossamer Gear carbon shits, as they cant handle anything before they break..)
As for the cognac -- you're obviously right, but I've recently stopped bringing too much on solo hikes, as I always drink it all the first night, and end up feeling shit all day, the next day. Too old.
