>>536447Needing modern technology to prosper in the natural world is a myth. The only reason it takes skill and dedication in a place like America is because the country got over hunted and too many people wanted their 'share' (usually much more than just a single share) of the national resources. For example, look at the passenger pigeon. What used to be the one of most common birds in the US with millions upon millions in population got hunted to literal extinction with immoral hunting practices to make a quick buck by hunters within a few decades.
If most people gave a damn about having a sustainable environment for everyone else to enjoy with a stable population for the future, we wouldn't have to completely be reliant on the grid.
In fact, there are still a few places in Africa where modern technology hasn't reached. They gather berries with occasional hunting, fishing, and growing basic crops and get along just fine for the most part. Without the technology to make nearly all babies survive birth, their numbers are much more sustainable.
However once people learn that they can exploit the environment and other people for personal gain and profit, they will destroy nearly anything to get ahead. For example you can see factories and farms outputting a shitton of pollution that obliterates natural habitats, corporations like Wal Mart illegally hiding their money in other countries so they won't be taxed while forcing its employes to rely on government aid, poachers trying to exploit the last of endangered species for quick, easy money, and capitalists forcing children to work incredibility long hours in dangerous conditions during the industrial revolution.
Due to human ingenuity, tendency to overpopulate, greed, and lack of sympathy for the environment, humans by in large destroyed and depopulated the natural environment that was once a very sustainable paradise for everyone to enjoy.
