Also being an outdoorsman has always kinda been historys NEETs anyway. so pretty much you're still a NEET but instead of being inside you're outside.

It's really like asking how do I get into any hobby. You learn about the hobby, you work at the hobby, you do the hobby. You learn what works for you and what doesn't, retain the knowledge of what doesn't but filter it out of your primary style, it's not rocket science, but even rocket science is the same fucking way.

i respectfully disagree with everything you posted, especially the part about wasting money. being a neet, op can't afford to spend a bunch of money on classes and guides. he has just enough for the 10 essentials

1) food: doritos
2) water: mountain dew
3) clothing: jeans and cheap t-shirts(100% cotton)
4) shelter: a hammock
5) light: incandescent maglite(avoid led lights because they're too lightweight and flimsy)
6) fire: a bic(preferably orange)
7) navigation: the stars(a compass is unnecessary because ounces add up to pounds and pounds add up to pain)
8) first aid kit: for pussies
9) knife: a mora
10) sun protection: this shouldn't even be one of the 10 essentials

Start basic man, get your foundations together. Start hiking, build up the distances, find your nearest mountain or similar and climb it if feasible, that sort of thing. Start on some adjunct hobbies, like archery/fishing/cooking. Build up some gear as you go, start doing multi-day hikes and camping out. But yeah, start local and basic and then build up to bigger things/different facets as you get more capable.

It depends on what exactly you want to do. Chances are that if you really wanted to get into climbing/mountaineering, backpacking, whitewater, etc you would have already done it. Just go do whatever you want to do, there is no set way about doing things. People say that you should learn how to climb on lead in the gym first, and I learned outside during my first time out. People say that you need to learn steep snow skills from a guide. Guess what, I read the techniques in the freedom of the hills, went to practice on something of low consequence, and gradually worked my way up to steep angled stuff. Just go out and do what you want to do, and don't let anyone stop you.
