Just cause it has a 20 yr warranty, does not mean jack shit. Like most companies, there are warranties, they are void if x amount of things happen.

Like the warranty says "Gerber product is warranted to be free of defects in material and workmanship for as long as the original consumer owns the product" If you break it, yourself are SOL.

One reason why ppl love Esee. Doesn't matter if you're the 1st or 100th owner. Doesn't matter if you break on accident or on purpose. It has a un conditional life time (Not ten or twenty yrs, true LIFE time warranty) warranty. They stand behind their product. Being an Esee owner, only thing to bitch about is the price, you're just paying a lil extra for that warranty.

Or get a knife from the Becker line if you cannot afford an Esee, they make amazing knives.You can get the BK 15 for like 50 bucks.

I think intentional breakage is not covered by esee (as in, you put the knife in a vice and whack it with a hammer until it breaks), but breaking it through abuse is covered - say, you pry with the knife, because that's all you have, and it breaks, because you've put way too much stress on the knife - doesn't matter, esee will replace it.

Nope it is covered. If you break it on purpose, they will replace it.

This knife is in their display. A guy shot the knife on purpose, multiple times with dif calibers to see how strong the blade was. They replaced it.

My friend broke his Esee 4 on purpose, they replaced it.

Don't know what their business plan is. Not so long ago Gerber was a top quality brand. Today Gerber is only known for unbelievable design fails and overall bad quality. Luckily for them the average customer doesn't realize he's paying premium price for utter shit.

There is a reason knife people hate Gerber. Other knife companies don't do what Gerber does.

Schrade for example, used to make quality blades just like Gerber. Now their knives are made in China, but they're cheap and actually pretty good for what they are. They cut costs by not giving names for their products. They don't let some intern to design a machete that breaks from the handle within the first 2 minutes of use.

'Free of defects in material and workmanship' means nothing. There's no way you can prove, or even know if there are impurieties in steel or if the blade not tempered properly. These are the most common reasons when a knife breaks. Of course in Gerber's case it can be anything.

If it so happens that ESEE breaks, they'll give you a new 200+ dollar knife no questions asked. The point is, it won't break. That's what you're paying for, not the warranty itself. In this sense smart customers pay for stupidity of others, but this is how it has to be.

It does not cost 200 dollars. I bought and Esee 6 and and Izula 2 for less than 200 together.

Even Busse knife company, cheapest knife they sell is 227 before taxes, the most expensive one is like 700. Even they do not give the same warranty as Esee does.

Its very hard to quantify the value of a knife. People will pay $500 for a Spartan or $700 for a Busse Battle Mistress. They'll say its worth every penny. However, most expensive ESEE should only run you $150
What you do get with ESEE is a worry-free usage for that particular knife. I have no qualms hacking and slashing away with my Junglas since I know that it'll be replaced if it breaks.

Now, I have a custom woodlore-clone. While I use it a lot I also am very conscious about what I'm going to use it on. I'm not going to pry boar tusks out with it unlike my ESEE3

Yes it will, but you can dull it in a second it you put it against any hard material. I hate serrations and I have no need for them, but other people do.

A plain edge will actually cut seat belt a lot better than a serrated one, but how often you cut seat belts with a knife?

I do, I hate the damn thing. I am in the market for a new one, which I keep hearing to get the benchmade one. I tried using serrated a few times, it was so so. I have a dedicated pocket knife that I only use for seat belts. No serrations, sharpen it up to 8k with wet stones. Cuts through seat belts very easily.

Kinda funny how often seat belt locks jam, need for the seat belt to be cut.
