Hey /out/... So I am starting my summer job this Monday and I am thinking about buying a watch with my first paycheck. I am going to use it for outdoors business but also as a daily carry.

I am thinking of getting the G-Shock Rangeman, does anyone have any experience with this watch?

All Casio features like compass, barometer, thermometer, etc are flawed. They fail often.

Picrelated is the best tier casio watch that ONLY tells the hour (plus chronometer, alarm, etc, but you get what i mean, no fancy stuff).

I had this for almost 4 years including 2 seasons of treeplanting. Strap/housing finally broke a few days ago, but it past my expectations.

You only really need the time and temp when ur outdoors, with average water protection.
An altimeter is retarded because the altitude is mapped all the fuck over topo maps - altitude is static information which is readily available, there is absolutely no need for a sensor. Plus the stupid thing needs to be calibrated all the time.

And a barometer is just fucking dumb, never fucking ever has it ever predicted the weather faster than what you can directly see and know.

Atleast the SGW100 also has a fucking compass, which is actually useful outdoors, and not completely worthless.
Always nice to have a backup compass in case ur smartphone breaks.

Yes. I have the rangeman. I've had it for almost a year and I love it.

The sensors all work, but the temp sensor will read about 5-10 degrees high when its on your wrist. take it off and set it down in the shade for 10 mins for the accurate temp.

The buttons on it are real nice. It's nice overall. With that all being said I am going to buy

The PRG270 is breddy gud.
The compass works very well, and I rarely have to reset the barometer or the thermometer. It also comes with a bunch of alarms, a solar face to prolong battery life, sunrise/sunset prediction based on your latitude and longitude, recording functions for the altimeter and some other shit, and a bunch of other neat features, all while not being nearly as gaudy as a G-Shock.

I've owned a G-shock Mudman for 4 years now and it's been great. However, I've had to replace the battery and I find that it has lost alot of its shock resistance. The watch has reset itself about 5 times now over the last few months. I'm in the military so one or two of those times its because I've been doing something warry and losing the time has really fucked my day.

So, I'm looking for a new watch. While a thermometer, barometer and altimeter would be nice what I'm really looking for is a tough watch (Up to mudman standards) that can display compass bearings in Mils (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angular_mil).

Any suggestions?

Just get this watch its really good. Ive been using it for a long time and it gets dirty everyday when i work at construction sites. Its durable and has everything you need and no fancy shit and it only cost me $40 on amazon with free shipping.

Having said that, I punished it pretty hard, way harder than you would camping out for a few days. It got fuckign raped so it's not really a fair benchmark. getting stuff fixed or replaced means sending it back the manufactuere, this is expensive and takes a long time. You cannot get this watch repaired locally, there are no spare parts made for third party vendors.

I only bought it because I thought it looked good, which it does. It keeps time and let's be honest no one uses those other functions anyway, so if you cna get it cheap I say go for it. Just don't expect to rely on it inn actual emergency survival situation.

Great looking watch, much better than the typical gshock mudmans you see getting about on most dudes.

However the watch chews through batteries and if you don't get it professionally changed and pressure tested it WILL die in the water.

I swapped over to the gshock DW-5600, which has now survived two seasons of canyon guiding. Much better value for money in my opinion.

I wouldn't try to compromise and just get a real compass.

If you have a proper nato band, you will not loose your watch. Even a normal band is pretty hard to damage, the band pins would have to fail, and that is rarely the case. Only if you manage to get your arm stuck and pull your watch off somehow, with violence.

Just pay some attention to the watch. I've been working on my car and never scratch my watches. A bigger threat are small scratches and dings on the case/glass.
