>>547989I stopped tenting like 10 years ago and haven't looked back. These are my own personal reasons:
1. I find it more comfy
2. I find it easier and more pleasant to setup
3. The ground is the main source of woes while camping. It's cold and uncomfy. To sleep on a cold ground you need not just a tent and blanket/bag but some kind of insulation. I don't need any of that shit in my hammock, except in winter when I bring an underquilt - which is like R5 or more prolly and half the size of an R1 sleebin pad.
4. Hammocks are modular, you don't need to bring all the pieces. My hammock weighs only a few ounces and rolls up to the size of a baseball. If I need the bugnet that's an additional orange-sized ball. If need one or both tarps that's like a t-shirt each (I use modular fitted tarps that are small). If I want my spreader poles in addition to everything else it comes to about the packsize of a tent, but generally smaller. And way less hassle imo.
5. It's SO FUCKING MUCH EASIER to find a spot. God damn you just tree up and you're done.
