>>541104Lots of posts in this thread are attacking gear fags, but I will say that out of a thousand gearfags I've met, maybe 10 were highly competent well rounded people.
Some folks just really really really like gear. They put off buying things or blowing money on bullshit to make sure they get EXACTLY what they want when the time comes. They like to be on the cutting edge of what the market has to offer and typically, the ones who know what they're actually doing aren't the ones that rub it in your face. Furthermore they're making gwop at their job which typically means they're a relatively smart person to begin with.
However the other side totally exists..... I had a friend whose parents would give him anything he wanted from REI. I'd show up with a nice thing, next trip he'd have a step up from that. "Oh that's a sweet 30degree bag anon, mines a 20 though so have fun freezing your ass off" "Got the sweetest sleeping mat in the world dude, you gotta try this thing!" "My stove boils water in 30 seconds flat, and you don't have to preheat it!" This kid was also the worst of the worst too because he was a frequent festival goer, meaning he never really camped except to get fucked up out of his trunk........
Just making the point though, gear queer or whatever you wanna call it isn't necessarily a bad thing, some people just really get down on technical stuff. Some folks want the new iphone every time because they want to keep up and be accepted, some folks live a life deeply ingrained with technology and have the resources to do what makes them happy. One is not like the other.
