Some places you are not allowed to leave anything behind and going to the bathroom in the middle of the night sucks when the porta jons are over a football field away from your campsite and you are surrounded by tents, campfires, and drunk people. Compound that with long lines at the porta jons and you being drunk, well I'd rather just use a bucket.

Buy cheap bucket the size of the one in op's picture, buy white kitchen garbage bags, buy padded toilet seat, have garbage bag filled with dirt and an empty margarine container. Shit in kitchen garbage bag lining the inside of the bucket and cover with dirt scooped out of garbage bag with margarine container. Costs about 15 bucks and has worked for me the last two summers. Installing a normal toilet in my cabin this afternoon though, it's an exciting day.

I'm living in a house innawoods where I am redoing all the plumbing.
