Next time I go out, I am seriously contemplating not coming back.
I can either sit at home in my government housing and be a neet hermit, or I can disappear into the bush and live by myself under my own terms as a hermit, or die trying.

Look, if you truly want to become a hermit, you have to do it right.

Get a map of where you'll be /out/. Pack for the right supplies. Buy a rifle, if you can. Learn to build cabins and stoves with little more than an axe and know-how. Bring entertainment and shit. Point is, just plan right and you won't die. Might get a dog before going to.

He died from rabbit starvation.

I know how to grow carrots and potatoes, I will be taking adequate gear for the climate as well as some comforts from home as the new cabin that I eventually build will become my new home.

Anyway, like I said, just make sure you're prepared. Make sure you know the land more than anything. If I was you, I'd work on getting the cabin built before actually heading /out/ for good. Save extra money and spend it on stockpiling extra foodstuffs that won't need changing out anytime soon.

Not sure what country you're in but I seriously recommend some form of defense. To my knowledge, getting a bolt-action rifle is fairly easy in a lot of countries.

Another food point, fat weight is pack weight. With fat weight, you can safely ration your food while your body uses up the extra fat weight. But, you'd better be able to stop rationing once you attain normal weight.
