Seems like pretty obvious but its definitely helped me out; keep your wet kit wet, and your dry kit dry.

Make sure your tent isn't shit. I have camped in the past with cheap tents and have experienced leaks. went last month and camped a week in the rain. Used a new Eureka 3 season tent with a rainfly that came all the way to the ground. No leaks. It did have condensation inside, but that was expected. I did not rig a tarp over the tent, but did put a tarp under the tent to get me out of the mud. I didn't dig a moat either.

>>549890 yea i have a tarp for the tent and was planning on putting it under it, idk how i would go about tying it high enough up on the surrounding trees to make much of a difference, im thinking of bringing a popup shade thing to put over the tent.....

>>549890 here is the tent I used:
http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=30767586 there is a three man version which will probably serve better when camping with two people

>>549894 If it's that bad you may want to save the pop up canopy for sitting under. Might get stir crazy in a tent all day. Also make sure your ground tarp doesn't hang out past the side of the tent. It makes an easy path for rain dripping of the sides to get under the tent if you do.

Honestly you should try to find another time to go camping. A girls first camp experience is crucial, and rain probably isnt going to make her want to go again. Just my opinion. You're welcome.

Don't let the tarp beneath the tent stick out any. If it does you'll get water in the tent. Also don't let shit touch the sides on the inside if it's a cheap tent. Any contact will bring in water.

>>549886 bring lots of alcohol. if it's raining, and she doesn't want to go do anything in the rain, she's gonna bitch about everything. just get her drunk enough where she doesn't give a fuck, and then give her a good fucking.

Scout your site well. Avoid anywhere that's going to wind up with a river running through it. Keep in mind flash floods or rising water if your near it. Just spent this past weekend in 2 days of rain. Was hammock camping though so less of a big deal. Stay organized and just assume everything will get wet.

>>550157 This works well. Also, if there's a swimming spot, that will help too. Last time I went in the rain, I brought along a rainfly from my 10 person tent. I stuck it over my 3 person tent with its rainfly on. It kept all of our stuff quite dry and had enough of an overhang for our boots and packs.

>>549886 Use a dual layer tent. One to keep heat in and insects/wind out. Then hang a waterproof tarp over it. Not draped over; put a second tarp tent over it. (Hence dual layer.) That way you can manage the tent's inside without worry leaks. If one leaks the other will help protect you. You can also manage the atmosphere of the actual tent for condensation reasons listed here:

It's the same idea of dressing in layers. Tenting in layers adds additional protection from the elements and increases comfort and conservation of energy.

>>549886 get a tarp or something to put up over the picnic table or wherever you're gonna sit/cook/eat. Folding chairs to sit up off the ground. Some type of easy on/off footwear so you don't track mud in the tent
good raingear too if you're gonna be out and about during the day

I thought this might liven-up the thread a little.

>>549894 Make sure you get an extra large tarp. Me and my girlfriend spent 4 days in pic and it rained pretty much every day. The extra room gives you a place to sit and dry stuff out. Despite the rain our little camp area was mostly dry and we had a great time. There's only a few things you can do in a tent when its pouring outside...
