Does /out/ use buffs? I just learned about them and am kind of sold on they idea but do they actually get put to use?

I got the wool one for snowshoeing, skiing, etc. If you need one for just general use the original coolmax will do ya right.

Sure, for many purposes:

1. to cover my head from wind when hair is cut short,
2. to cover my hair from insects when walking or cycling,
3. to protect mouth and neck in frosty weather,
4. on wrist to wipe sweat off my forehead when jogging or doing some other intensive exercise.

Yes buff wraps are worth the buy.

I've been wearing one around my neck all summer while working outdoors. It's thin enough that it won't make you hot but it offers great sun protection for the back of your neck.

I got a few. Don't get the colorful ones, they look stupid. The extra long "tactical" ones actually are pretty good. I keep one in my winter coat pocket for when the temperature really dips down and I need something over my face.

THey're good for situations where you say "it's cold but not cold enough that I need a hat / face cover". Then you slip one in a pocket in case you're wrong.

They're supposed to keep the sun/sweat out of your face in summer but I find they don't really help for that.

It's much better for carry-on-only travel than for hiking/camping.

I carry a UV buff in the winter. Really great for protecting your neck from snow sunburns. Know a lot of climbers/mountaineers who use them too, it's almost like a calling card. That and a Patagonia Houdini or R1.

What, how? They've been around for at least 15 years. I have a couple and I like how you can wear them in multiple fashions which makes them incredibly versatile. I always have one with me whilst /out/ but never seem to bother using it for some reason. It either just sits round my neck doing nothing or stuffed away in my backpack doing even less.

I put it over my ears to keep them from freezing and i'm able to pull it over my nose or lower it if I need to drink or something

Friend told me his (then) gf used one to keep her (very curly) hair in check when he jizzed on her face. Jizz is kinda easily wiped off the fabric (or you just throw it in the washing machine) but if you get it into your hair, its a bitch to clean out. Basically you have to shower.

1 when lawn mowing, I use one to prevent debris from getting into my collar, also when it's windy I use at a filter to prevent grass from getting in my nose and mouth.

2 soak in some water put it around your neck to cool yourself off.

they do sell military wool balaclavas which are 1/4th of the price, but the merino wool isnt itchy and makes a nice light layer of insulation for ears and neck.

i dont winter camp without it. infact i just dont spring or fall without it either, fits in a mint container unlike other bulky wool as well.

I use a neck gaiter made by Columbia. Omnifreeze technology or whatever they hell they call it. I love it. Use it for hiking and fishing mostly, in Florida mind you. I also own a Buff poly and I can easily say the Columbia outperforms the buff in the heat. Keeps the sun off my neck and face and doesn't make me any hotter. Plus it's perfect for wiping sweat off my brow.
