What's /out/'s experiences with trail blazing? I never realized how fun it is until now
>fostering a dog I need to walk often
>like walking, hate walking alone, so perfect match
>on main paths in a park, really annoying because of joggers double lapping me, people on Bluetooths ruining the silence, and assholes on bikes that try to almost hit you
>walking for a bit, and see a weird gap in the trees
>investigate, and recognize it as a trail
>decide to take the trail, and find many more trails branching off of it and around the area
>start taking these trails regularly with doggies
>one day, after coming out of one of the backwoods trails, a guy comes up to me
>tells me those trails aren't regulated and I am not allowed on them
>he proceeds to tell me that him and a group of others made those trails, but authorities could start putting on the pressure and 'close them down' because of safety
About a month later
>walking down trail, but near the end a giant fallen tree breaks the path
>someone is there trying to pathetically saw the huge thing
>we make arrangements with some other friends to come in early the next morning to saw the tree by hand (can't use anything too loud)
>get coffee for everyone, walk the trail with some tools and find 3 guys there, prepping for work
>4 am to 6:30 am, we get a sizable chunk out of the way; enough to be able to walk past
>we all go on our separate ways
After that, I started to think how nice it would be to have some sort of small site for local trail blazers to keep their trails maintained, set up projects for new trails, tell people what to watch out for, etc. Is there anything out there like that? Is there any other way too keep a select few people informed without letting the general public, who might tell authorities about the trail blazing? Anyone have advice on starting new trails and keeping them up to snuff?
