Is there any reason why i should by a MSR for x3 the price of this chinese one?

Also, what's the benefit of my multifuel over a regular prefilled canister other then the fact i can use my motorcycle fuel to cook with aswell. I'm assuming using a multifuel is far more involved and i have to read up on what fuels i'll be using. Lastly, how foolproof are multifuels?

Multis are better for melting snow.

They are more fiddly than canister stoves in that you have to preheat them.

Of what I read the chinese ones are not built as rebust but since MSR have dropped a load of spare parts from their catalog and just give you the send it in spiel I'd be tempted.

I live in australia so i'll never have to deal with pre-heating. The lowest temps i'll have to put up with is probably 0. I also carry a lighter on me so wouldn't i just have to pump the can, open the valve and light?

Personally I'm old school and still use a Trangia, but I have seen plenty of MSR stoves and they seem to work great, what you are paying for with the MSR is quality control, these stoves have a lot of moving parts and if one or two are not right then it will not work, MSR has a name and they stand behind it while chang wang brand from China doesn't give two shits as long as they have your money, buy the MSR and at least you will know it will work or you can get a refund if it's fucked.

I am concerned about weight and size though. Your pic related looks like a lot to carry to heat some water or food.

I really only boil water when /out. I make coffee and heat food.

The pocket rocket does everything I need, and its light.

The Chinese knockoff wasn't that much cheaper and I would rather have a quality product I can depend on when going to store isn't an option.

No, that's not how these stoves work.

Such is life using liquid fuel stoves mate. Basically you HAVE to pre-heat because if you don't the first bit of fuel in the stove won't vaporize and you'll just get big dirty yellow flame that will just cover your cooking gear in soot and not be very hot.

You should buy a Primus or an MSR by the way. I had a ching chong potatoe version and it was so shitty - My MSR however is fucking GOAT.

I own a whisperlite and a primus canister stove. I use the primus on solo or longer hikes. I use the whisperlite if I'm with other people. I feel like i can get more use maybe not for the weight of the fuel, but certainly for the size of the bottles. Also i use the whisperlite in the winter cause i can poura bit of liquid fuel out and help get a fire going quicker.

I just tested that stove out the other day and while the stove itself works, the ability to attach and detach the stove from the canister is quite difficult. Needed a tool to unscrew the thing from the canister.

They're all the same. Cheap as fuck chinese stoves. Mine was from the link the other guy posted. They work great. Some people in the reviews get lemons, I dunno. Maybe get 2 just in case. They fold up tiny, that little orange box is like the size of a deck of cards (well, shorter, and a little fatter). It's really small.

Mine is kill and they refuse to sell me the spare part they used to sell a couple of years ago for $20. They want me to send it to them and charge me 2/3 the price of a new one.

Tested out my new 8 dollar etekcity canister stove this afternoon. It worked pretty good. It's small, lightweight and very packable. The only issue I noticed is that the gas valve wasn't extremely precise. Just a few degrees of adjustment between barely burning and wide fucking open but since I was making cup 'o ramen and mountain house chili mac (only boiling water), it wasn't a problem.

Based on my first experience, I'd recommend one of these for someone seeking a small backpacking stove for freeze dried food and hot beverages.

They're great. They are cheapest at walmart ($15 as opposed to $25 everywhere else). They're also built to last. They're sturdy, and easy to clean as well. It's very light without the nesting cups inside, and not bad with them in it. I can back a 1 nesting cup, and my stove inside it.

For boiling water, they're great. Most my meals are mountain house/backpackers pantry, ect type stuff, so boiling water is all I need. Also use it to make ramen, and coffee.

One of my favorite backpacking items I own.

Yes, it IS rather skinny. In fact the pot has such a small diameter that it doesn't fit most stoves (the flame ring is usually wider than the pot...) Since the etekcity stove has such a narrow flame, it matches up nicely with the Stanley pot.

They do feel good in hand but IMO they're too heavy, don't hold enough and take up all the valuable space inside the pot that can be used for food or other gear. When I purchased my Stanley, I also got a SS mug (pic related) that the pot nests INTO. It takes up virtually no additional space in my pack, gives me a second boiling vessel and allows me to cram all kinds of stuff inside the pot.

Have no idea about the brand, they were just sitting on the shelf at Walmart next to the Stanley kettles so I grabbed a couple. When I got home, I started playing around with everything and noticed how well they fit together.
