But I highly doubt he is the last. I used to live in Paradise, Michigan, a place with a population of three hundred, officially. Closer to about five hundred. Five hundred and seventy if you count the "sovereign nation" of native americans about half a mile down the road.
There are a lot of strange, lonely, sad, and fascinating people in the UP of MI. And we only think that it is strange because we live in a highly populated and highly advanced portion of the world. Most people probably don't even remember that the people of north east Europe exist, or the multitude of Alaskans whose only contact with society is shopping twice a year.
....Unless you want to count NEETs, in which case Japan has the most hermits in the world by far.
