Also how do you guys go about getting a decent knife? Can anyone reccomend me one thats legal here? I'm having trouble at the moment trying to figure out if a Ka-Bar Becker BK7 Combat Utility Fixed Blade Knife (7-Inch) is legal to import without any kind of permit.

My understanding of the knife laws in Australia are as follows.

The size doesn't matter, pocket knife or bayonet its the reason why you have it on you at the time that counts.

Fixed blades are generally good to go, just have to be single bladed.

Folding knives can't be able to be opened with one hand.

Butterfly knives, push daggers, trench knives and spring loaded knives are all haram too.

You shouldn't have a problem importing any knife you want so long as it doesn't fall under those categories. If you are worried about being found with it, then my suggestion is to get a multitool. Easier to justify in a greater range of situations, however that's just my opinion.

Any reasonable sized, utility orientated knife, stored and with your camping/hiking equipment and carried on such activities should be justifiable.

There is a couple. I'm not sure that any of them actually have the item to send to you.
I think they probably do something like place a weekly order to the USA.
So, they really are middle-men here that you might not necessarily *need.*
But, if they can get it to you for a decent price and if it is not you risking your money to Custom's sticky fingers: I guess it's a valuable service.
Also, this cuttingedge guy has some things that are not legal in my state.

Last year I went to Mt.Franklin, was pleasantly suprised, despite old people in retirement the place was kinda awesome.

Hiking along the Jamieson River is gr8, Mitchells Bridle Track, camping at Lower Big River is good when it's not a common holiday time, chaffeys creek camp ground (Up the Eildon end of the state forest), but when that's crowded you want to head up to Upper Big River (4x4 only unless you go via Marysville) the sites are deeper into the bush and slightly more secluded. There's a track all the way through the ranges from VIC to QLD but I don't really know anything about it other than I think it was originally for horses.

I don't really know anything other than that area, you can probably go to Enfield State Forest, Lerderderg, Grampians, Wilsons Promontory, Macedon Ranges, Cathedral Ranges, Little Desert National Park.

There's plenty of wilderness up near King Lake, St. Andrews etc; but you've got to be fucking game, I would stick to parks. Many of them are huge and still untouched virgin forest/mountains so there's really no excuse to fuck off into nowhere.
