Has anyone ever made their own moccasins or other clothes? I hear buckskin is a god-tier material. Post your creations, ideas, and experiences.

No I don't want to get doxxed. Just find old wide belts and cut them to size and use Chicago screws to hold the pieces together. It's not fancy but it's functional.

I got loads of inexpensive leather which looked like torn away from car seats. Shit was good tho, made double layer leather chest armour. It took a lot of punching holes with awl and sewing with fishing rod string or however you call that. Have no pix, I left it in Europe with friend who waxed and hardened it.

I've made a buckskin tunic and dark ages turnshoes.

With the tunic was made of buckskin i tanned myself that i stitched together easily.

the turnshoes were harder, i got them waterproof by putting pine pitch on the sole and on the seams on the sole of the shoe. it works good and i'm sure people 1400 years ago did it.

young rabbits have very thin fur. Older rabbit fur is alright thickness. I've made some very rough sandals out of rabbit skin and they lasted a few weeks daily use (each sandal had 2 rabbit skins sewn on)

i wear them every weekend.

They do fine, I walk over briars and thick thorns and thistles. The soles are very thick and you can feel the ground with them but sharp rocks or glass would have a hard time penetrating through the soles.

Thick cow leather from a jacket and then pine pitch on it and in the seams. I could but small stones in the pine pitch to make the shoes less slippery but I can't be bothered to do that.

I have another pair I bought which has toggles instead of being slip on and has a thinner sole

Tanning buckskins i have books for and internet guides.

Leatherwork is easy to do, it just takes practice to be better than 99% of people.

Long story short I made the watchband now I have most of a doubleshoulder from a cow and half a goat left over.

Not sure what I'm going to end up using it for, I wanted some slippers and cases for electronics (keyboard/trackball)

The straps aren't holding the shoes. They're woolen straps called winnegas to keep trousers from billowing out and to keep trousers warm from rain and snow. The artist's drawing isn't accurate, they would have looked like pic related instead of what the artist drew.
