In under 2 weeks I'm going to be moving to Svalbard, Norway (78°N, 300 miles north or the arctic circle). I'll be studying there for over 4 months which will include weekly excursions and field trips, as well as weekend hiking and skiing trips.
Unfortunately, I've never been to the arctic before and therefore have none of the equipment I need. It's pretty pricey stuff and starting to add up. The most expensive item is going to be my coat. I've been looking at Canada Goose and Northface stuff mainly because they're the only brands I know that make stuff suited for -40°C. However, apparently those are probably the two most expensive brands out there. Do you guys have any recommendations on cheaper companies that might offer what I need?
