When I go up mountains I bring a tiny head torch even if there's less than zero chance I need it just so mountain rescue can't bitch at me if I get into trouble. I'm often telling my mate who comes with me sometimes to get some walking boots for the same reason, they always bitch about trainers up hills.

I've done a bit of that before... I don't want to do it again but it's pretty simple stuff you can't go too far wrong if you've seen a few pics etc.

I often spot 'em when climbing hills in wales, pic related.

They're a trip if you take 30-40+ ish. Had some good times on 'em, giggling my fucking ass off on a motorway embankment watching speaks fly off passing cars and running shit scared in a field away from a police helicopter chasing me with its light (really a garden security light half a mile away). Walking over grass and seeing not grass but 7,293,758 infinite individual and unique blades of grass. Everything fucking moving almost imperceptibly (I still get tiny little flashbacks to that every so often).

I stopped when I had a really bad trip, then the next one was even worse. My own fault I suppose, bad situations to take 'em, but fuck that shit my mind isn't built for it.

What? It's paper, it will get wet. I use a really cheap map case I got from Go Outdoors and it has been fine, never leaked. Another option is just photocopying the part of the map you need and taking that, possibly laminated.

That reminds me that I haven't got out in the hills at all this summer. The weather has been crap in the Lakes. Really want to get on some mountain crags too.

Man, that was an old torrent when I found it, and I found it when I was in the cadets doing my Silver DofE, which was something like 9 or 10 years ago. I wonder who that first sharing soul was? I wonder if it was someone who worked for OS or a vendor that sold their digital maps. I can't imagine who else would have collected them all.

I'm having trouble cutting down on volume I have compression sacks and the like but I'm struggling to bring more than two changes of clothes, my tent, my sleeping bag, my firstaid kit, food, messkit, 2 canteens, hatchet, knife, tarp, rope and bungees. (plus sharpening kit)
Any ideas lads? my chest webbing and bergen have one or two pockets free, but I feel I could easily cut it down more.
Any suggestions?

Only solution i've ever found (once you've fucked off all the stuff you can live without) is money. Fancy down sleeping bag less than half the volume of equiv synthetic and much lighter too, fancy tent same, fancy down jacket saves a fuck load of space for your winter warmth layer, etc etc etc.

Caldera cone and a ti pot saved me a fuck load of space and weight.

I suspect by your gear list there you might have a lot of free weight savings by not bringing duplicated or liveable without items.

The thing with shrooms is that you can gauge how hard you will trip based on the shroom type and amount of dried or fresh shrooms. Few tips

If you go in with no intention practically anything can, and usually does, happen.

/out/ has made it my fantasy to do a lot of wild camping, but then I read our country's rules and they seem to suggest I have to use camping sites, I just don't see the appeal of that at all. People in these threads are talking about knives and hatchets, so why would anyone need those if they were obeying the laws and spending the time in managed sites full of facilities?

knives are fine too btw, camping is a very good reason to have a knife, not that you'll get any cops 3 hours walk up a hill. An axe is more dodgy in my mind, because it says 'i'm planning on cutting down trees or having a fire' and those are things that are not so ok.

anyways, think of the camping law as I do and you'll get on fine: it's a law where if no one ever knows you broke it, it wasn't really broke.

It's been a long boring summer for me. My mate who I normally walk with started a new job this year and he works weekends so I haven't really been out since March. Except for this weekend, did a walk across the bay on a charity event. Pretty unique, but ultimately a bit dull. Saw a few... Not as many as I'd expected though. Actually not last night the night before now I think about it.

I must've been out there for 45 min and only saw 3. Bit shit really. It occurred to me today that i've never tried to see a meteor and failed, when camping or just outside perhaps i've been lucky but if you look up long enough there's always one eventually.

So I was a bit disappointed with only 3 in 45 min.
