It takes a lot of effort and investment before companies start supporting you either financially or with products. You're going to have to spend money first.
The time commitment's a big deal too.
There's a lot of days I'd much rather be in the mountains freeriding with friends, instead i'm herding a dozen people who have maybe a year or two experience on a sled and educating them on what they need to know to survive in avalanche terrain.
Then there's all the shows/events in the summer/fall, before the season kicks up... "networking" ... lots of miles in the truck chasing kickoff events, swap meets where we've got a booth set up, trade/industry shows...
