Where do you guys take showers and wash your clothes when on a hiking trip?

I'm planning on hiking the adk but I'll be sleeping on the trail for multi day hikes and in my car over night on shorter ones. Its a first for me and I'm not sure where to take showers and the like?

I figured getting a cheap gym membership would still cost less than a single day at a motel but there has to be a better option.
