First, I don't get all the French/Euro hate in this thread. The family spend their holidays and money to visit your country as tourists, they clearly admire the USA in some way. I really don't understand how they could fuck up so bad either and how they could be so idiotic but i do believe it could have happened to clueless people from any nation.
>>573745You clearly don't know the biggest dangers either(and a lot of americans don't), their is less then 10 fatal bear attacks in the usa every year and even less cougar attacks etc. Figure how many people die because of getting lost, dehydration, falling, getting sick, hypothermia, avalanche....
Now for numbers lets compare:
One of the most /out/ states in the US has 46 /out/ related deaths in a year:
http://www.coloradoan.com/story/sports/2014/08/23/colorados-backcountry-sees-deaths-year/14518207/One of the most /out/ countries in europe has 300 /out/ related deaths annually:
http://www.planetski.eu/news/3980Colorado is more then 3 times as big, and Austria's population is 1.6 times larger. Its hard to find believable numbers on tourists for Colorado (Austria 20 mil) but i think it would be kinda comparable.
So why are there so much more /out/ related fatalities in europe? Maybe the weather or the terrain in europe is more unforgiving, maybe americans are not so outdoorsy people think on here and have less people going /out/, Or maybe when americans go /out/ they tend to stay in the very crowded tiny area of the park entrance and europeans are more hardcore in their activities, maybe the europeans are less prepared and dumber on /out/ related activities...
It's hard to tell but it's probably a combination of all these things.
