Hey /out/, hobo here. Leaching off of some of that Starbucks internet outside.
Anyway, I'm just going to leave this question here and come back tomorrow hoping for a few answers.
How can I get across Canada's borders?
I've had my ID and other forms of identification stolen a long time ago and have never bothered to replace it, so I would presumably have to cross into Canada illegally.
I suspect there may be ground sensors, cameras, men riding moose, or something of the like.

Railway. If you are in Ontario, you might be able to hitch a ride on transport trains that sometimes stop at go stations. Train yards are pretty good too. I remember seeing some guy riding trains from Quebec into Ontario on youtube. He would camp out by the train yard and get on when it would slow down.

Hitchiking is easy if you are farther away from large towns. Small town folk are extremely polite and welcoming and if you aren't a scumbag they would be willing to help you out. In the GTA hitchhiking will be hard, if you look clean and don't smell you might have an easier time.

O fuck I thought you meant traveling within Canada. Getting on transport trains will still be your best chance. You might be able to crossover in deeply forested areas, right along the border of BC and Alberta. I don't even think they have border guards in the deep forests.

Depending on where you are you may be able to just walk in, a lot of the uninhabited areas in the prairies and densely forested areas aren't even fenced

I researched the security a bit and they have ground sensors and infrared cameras along those areas. And this is for both the US and Canada, so once I make my move, there's no going back.

You know there are actually organizations that will help you reacquire those things, so you travel to places and not worry about getting raped in prison.

It's really not that hard mate... The Maine/NB border is literally a river for the southern bit, I've canoed it and you can easily just camp on either shore. Start on the Maine side around Spednic Lake, and just end up on the NB side. Start walking to McAdam and hitch a ride.

Once in Canada it'll be tough. If you hitchhike cops will ask you for ID, if you want to buy liquor or smokes you'll need ID. The winters are harsh. You could probably bum around Vancouver pretty easily, lots of homeless there, just return cans and camp near wrek beach or something.

I wouldn't recommend this though, it's asinine. I recommend you go through the process of getting ID, getting a passport and crossing in legally. Dress nicely, take a bus, say you're visiting for the weekend to check out the sites.

That's an option buy I'm currently in North Dakota and trying to get into Northern Ontario to meet a dear friend of mine. I'm on a tight schedule too, so waiting to get my passport or ID back isn't very feasible right now.

Pembina, North Dakota looks like a good place to cross into Manitoba. You could follow the Red River right into Emerson, Manitoba. Probably be a good idea to be on the East side of the river and travel at least a 1km East of it when you get close to the border (Emerson is right on the border).

From Pembina to Emerson is about a 5km walk, but your walking isn't over. I wouldn't suggest trying to get on a bus in Emerson or showing your face to the locals too much, this also goes for Pembina. They are bound to recognize you as a bum/drifter, and in these small towns it won't be long before the local law enforcement is looking out for a "strange character". So once near Emerson (right on the border), I'd suggest that you move at night and follow the East side of the Red river North right past the town. Once past the Emerson there are a couple of grid roads on either side of the river that you could walk on, ducking down when vehicles come (which shouldn't be too often). This is about a 15km walk, then you should be near a highway (201) and a town called Ginew. From here you should hitch hike westwards (about 5km) too a town Letellier, which is on a major highway (75) going North to Winnipeg. It should be fairly easy to get a bus or hitch hike from this point on. Winnipeg sits on the Trans Canada Highway (#1), so you can take that East into Northern Ontario. Shouldn't be too hard to find rides hitch hiking that way, or you could buy a bus ticket to your desired destination in Ontario form here.

You would only have to get a passport card too. It's not as expensive and I believe it's faster than getting a regular Passport. There are tons of local places that will help you get your id also. And as for the passport you get it from the post office as soon as you get your ID

If you're in the state you were born in your birth certificate will be easy. But after 9/11 the borders are pretty secure now. Unless you have money to pay a coyote.

My friend whom I've travelled with for 6 years in both the United States and Mexico is dying and says he may only have a month at most.
Don't want to get too much into this sob story, but that's why I have a time constraint and can't wait for a passport.
We've messaged back and forth and he has no friends or family to possibly sneak me in and I really cannot take too much of a risk at getting caught.

The friend has no need to go to prison if they have any smarts. Here's a simple plan if you have a friend with car and id:

> Friend drives you to a spot close to the border
> Spot should be seculed, so not near major roads or cities/towns
> You hike it into the bush and head North
> Cross the border by nightfall (Canadian border so no fence or heavy patrol)
> Hike to a road or town that is 2-5km away from the border
> Friend passes through border and picks you up
> Friend takes you to a bigger city a good distance from border so you can get on a bus or hitch hike
> Friend returns from his pleasant stay in Canada, tells patrol officers that the beer is so much better and no one is the wiser

Seriously, what could go wrong with this plan? The border crossing is the most dangerous part, but this isn't USA to Mexico, it's not even Canada to USA, it's USA to Canada. Nobody is going to make a big fuss about an American sneaking into Canada. Canadians don't care, and USA would probably be glad to get rid of a drifter.

You should still work on getting your ID and then passport in the meantime. You never know he made me get a few months. You can also have your passport expedited where it takes a lot less time it cost more money but it may be worth it. If you don't have the money stand in the corner and ask people for change. those people make like a hundred bucks tody

Why not just hike into it via the PCT? You can get a permit at: http://www.pcta.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/PCT-Canada-Entry-Form-10.9.14.pdf. Being a hobo, you will blend in with the backpackers and risk nothing. A bit of warning though, hiking southbound on that trail is illegal and subject to a $5000 fine. You would need to exit the country some other route, possibly what >>570306

That form specifically asks for your state ID number, and Your passport number. You still need your ID and passport regardless. That form probably takes a months to get approved

Hauling people in the backcountry happens all the time up here and the hotel is a big tourist attraction, so no one will pay any attention. There is hardly anyone watching the CA side except for the occasional F&W officer checking fishing licenses.

I do it at least a couple times per year, have for years, and only been caught once when I was in town fucking around. I've spent weeks and weeks in CA illegally. I'm like a Mexican of the North Woods.
