>>571059I have several bags for different purposes, and almost all of them are down insulation.
For dead of winter/high altitude alpine:
>The North Face Inferno -29C + Exped Downmat 9I have used this one in temps as low as -20C (without a tent) and still required me sleeping naked because it was too warm- but I am also a warm sleeper. I imagine with merino wool thermals and tent, I can probably push it to the high -20's to low -30's.
Fall/ late Fall and late Winter/early Spring
>The North Face Blue Kazoo + Exped Downmat 9 or Exped UL 7Pretty decent 3-season bag, but I would never recommend this for summer unless you want to sweat buckets while you sleep. I can stretch this to freezing temps with merino wool thermals.
Late Spring/Summer/Late Summer
>The North Face Gold Kazoo + Exped UL 7Good for nights where the temp dips a bit chilly, dew point or high RH.
>Vaude Sioux 400 + Exped UL 7I paid $30 shipped for it on whiskeymilitia so I thought I'd give it a try. As of right now, I use it for warm night hammock sleeping or crashing out straight on a beach with no shelter or pad (warm nights). It serves its purpose but the fit of this bag is a bit tight and I'm not a large person by any means.
My next purchase will be an under quilt from Thermarest or I may just make my own with some military equipment and some 550 cord and save $100 or so.
